Satsuma pottery cover a wide area of material and an extensive timeline. To this day, there are pieces that are called "Satsuma". Generally, the collectors are looking for items that were produced in the 19th century and into the early 20th century.

Satsuma varies wildly in quality from the fine and exquisite to the mendane and cheap. You should be very careful and do your research before buying pieces. As a rule, the older and more complicated the piece, the more expensive it will be. There are other factors to consider like what type of piece it is.
